About Creative Stars Tutor Centre

Founded in 2018 by Gina Pretorius, Creative Stars Tutor Centre for homeschoolers was established in response to a growing need to support students struggling to keep pace with the traditional school curriculum. Many students are falling behind in critical subjects such as Mathematics and English, overwhelmed by the demands of their homework with no time to catch up. Our centre aims to provide homeschoolers with the targeted assistance they need to succeed academically.

History

Creative Stars Tutor Centre began in my home with two students, including my youngest daughter, who was in Grade 5 at the time. She was overwhelmed with homework and lacked structure in her studies. Her academic materials consisted of unmarked classwork, printed notes, and textbooks, all in disarray. At this critical stage of preparing for exams, she had no organized system to study effectively.

There was no time for her to engage in extracurricular activities that she enjoyed, as she was overwhelmed by her academic responsibilities. This situation prompted me to explore the world of homeschooling and the potential benefits it could offer my daughter. After thorough research, despite initial hesitance and fear of the unknown, I discovered the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) homeschool curriculum. This discovery inspired me to establish a tutor centre where my daughter could work at her own pace while benefiting from the social interaction with other students. The centre aims to provide assistance to students who may lack confidence in certain subjects, irrespective of their chosen curriculum.

Prior to this, I had embarked on a similar journey for my eldest daughter, who was in Grade 10 at the time. She faced comparable difficulties, including a dislike for attending school and a need for a different educational approach. Through my research, I discovered the GED program, an internationally recognized American High School Equivalency Certificate. This program allowed her to learn at her own pace and provided the opportunity to complete her education earlier than she would have in a mainstream school. She excelled in this program, completing it in just nine months, and was subsequently accepted into a university in South Africa to pursue a teaching degree.
